What is Sabeel?

  • Sabeel is an international peace movement initiated by Palestinian Christians in the Holy Land who seek a just peace based on two states-Palestine and Israel-as defined by international law and existing United Nations resolutions. Sabeel promotes theological, moral, and legal principles for peace as outlined in the Jerusalem Sabeel Document

How do I get more information about the Sabeel Conference in the Kansas City area?

  • Janet Baker, Chair of the Justice, Peace, and Environment Committee at (913) 649-9439 or write jannbak@aol.com
  • Andrea Whitmore, Chair of Citizens for Justice in the Middle East, (913) 236-9825 or write whitmoreandy@hotmail.com

What can you expect as a result of the Sabeel Conference being held in Kansas City?

  • You should hear a spirited dialogue within and among the Christian, Muslim & Jewish communities about what can bring a just peace in the Palestine/Israel area.

Why was the Sabeel conference in Iowa last year important to people starting to learn about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?

  • Because the Palestinian perspective has been so dramatically under-reported in our US media.

What solutions to the conflict did previous Sabeel conferences present, such as the Iowa conference attended by some of the KC conference organizers?

  • It focused on empowering the moderates and dis-empowering the radicals on both sides. A major theme was non-violent resistance championed by Mubarak Awad, who will also be one of our speakers at the KC conference.

What is the most important thing we can do here in Kansas City to draw people of all faiths to our Sabeel Conference, Oct. 20-21, 2006?

  • The Kansas City Sabeel Peace Conference should provide the facts not demonize the parties involved. More importantly, the conference should give concrete steps that all people can do to address the situation there and give hope to all.

What can you share about the conference experience with people that are thinking about attending the conference?

  • Whenever we work to move beyond the "conventional wisdom" of current public opinion and to be a prophetic voice, it is essential to become aware that there are others who share your vision and to make contact with them.

Why is the conference title "Ending the Silence: Voices from the Holy Land" so relevant to the focus on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?

  • We all must know what is actually happening and then go forth with a way to help the situation. We encourage all conference participants to go to learn, discuss and act for change.

I noticed there is a $4 service charge for the online registration. Why is there a service charge for the online registration?

  • You are not charged any additional fee beyond the $75 registration fee (or $45 one-day registration fee). The service the conference used for online registrations, Network for Good, actually receives the $75 registration fee and charges Friends of Sabeel-North America (FOSNA) the $4 service charge. Few other online registration services charge less than Network for Good service charges for this excellent service.
  • However, during one of the last steps during the registration (donation) process, you are asked if you would like to make an additional donation to Network for Good. Please be aware you are not required to make an additional donation and if you check this item (see "Do more good today!" screen below), you may not be able to uncheck it.
  • Call Matt at 816-729-9102 if you have questions or problems registering online.
