KC
Sabeel Conference Mission Statement
The regional conference at Village
Presbyterian Church will be the next-best thing to a
trip to the Holy Land. It will provide an unparalleled
opportunity for American Christians and others to learn
first-hand how we can help bring peace to Palestine—and
assistance to the “forgotten faithful” of the church.
The conference will provide workshops for those who want
basic history and information as well as workshops for
seasoned activists to network and learn ways to work
towards a just peace. The conference will
include:
-
Major presentations from invited speakers
-
Workshop sessions on history, theology, politics and
advocacy.
-
Middle East banquet and more!
Rarely does a conference on peace
and justice issues come to Kansas City with the caliber
of speakers and topics as the one that is being planned
for this Fall. Citizens for Justice in the Middle East
has joined with Friends of Sabeel—North America
and Justice, Peace and the Environment Committee
at Village Presbyterian Church to organize a Sabeel
Conference on October 20-21, 2006. This regional
conference will inform community members about current
realities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Sabeel (Arabic for “the way”) is a
grassroots peace movement which was initiated by
Palestinian Christians, who work side by side with
Muslims, Jews and the secular community to bring
awareness, dialogue and understanding to the
Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Through educational
conferences and programs, Sabeel works to build a
culture of peace.
We have invited a remarkable
list of speakers, all experts
in Palestine-Israel matters, who will address a range of
topics on current Mideast politics, as well as
topics on effective activism work. Their names and a
brochure describing sponsorship opportunities are
included with this letter. Those of you who have been
involved with the peace movement will agree that it’s an
impressive list!
If you are a member of a community
organization, faith community or own a business,
then consider becoming a Sponsor to help make the
conference a success. Go to the
Conference Sponsors web page
for more information.
Most of all, we want people to
come. The Boston regional conference attracted 800,
Chapel Hill 300, Toronto 200, Salt Lake City 300. To
date, there have been about fifteen regional
conferences—we’re proud that Kansas City will host this
Sabeel Conference. Go to the
Conference Registration
web page for more information.
